Operator Refresher Training
The refresher training is conducted
in line with the National Guidelines for Occupational, Health & Safety
Competency Standards for the Operation of load shifting Equipment and other
types of Specific Equipment (NOHSC : 7019) and specifically in line with the
Occupational, Health and Safety Certificates of Competency National Assessment
Instrument for Forklift Trucks, August 2000.
The refresher training assesses the operators' performance criteria in the following areas:
Unit ONE : Conduct routine checks
The operator is asked to carry out a complete routine check on the forklift
truck in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
The operator inspects the site and plans the work. All hazards are identified where applicable.
The operator conducts pre-operational start-up checks in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications/operating manual.
Unit TWO : Shifting the load
The operator is asked to move various loads, pick up and placement of loads
from low, medium and high level racking.
Unit THREE : Shut down equipment
The operator is asked to shut down the equipment.
Unit FOUR : Secure site
The operator is asked to secure the site.
At completion of the forklift truck operator awareness training the operator signs an acknowledgement agreeing that the training was conducted in line with the above units and that they understand and will continue to operate the forklift truck in line with the guidelines. A certificate of participation is issued a short time after completion.
